Although farts is it so animals, there is a difference between the meaning of an unknown animal and that of our pet in our dreams. While cats and dogs, in general – or a specific breed in particular – will represent certain characteristics for us, those of our cats and dogs are very specific. We know well the personalities, peculiarities and behaviors of our pets. These characteristics and details are used by our subconscious mind when choosing the perfect image / symbol to represent a specific idea or concept in our dreams.

An unfamiliar pet usually does not have any personality associated with it in our dream, and it rarely has detailed physical features other than being very big or small; red, black, white, etc .; or having too many or too few limbs (that kind of thing). It is your general general attributes like loyalty, aggression, cunning, stealth or your actions / behaviors that are important in the dream. However, our own pets in dreams are usually more detailed and personal symbols.

We had a family dog, Coty, for just over fifteen years. He was obedient, loyal, protective, but playful, funny, and gentle. Near the end of his life, his health, his eyesight, and his coordination were failing, but we loved him so much that we could not selfishly end his suffering. I still feel guilty for my involvement in continuing her pain. When it appears in my dreams, it is usually to draw my attention to a problem or situation that makes me feel guilty or bad, or in which I am acting selfishly. However, on rare occasions, its appearance in a dream represents security and protection or unconditional love.

As with any dream symbol, the context and additional images will determine the specific meaning of the dream.

Dogs other than Coty (our Husky) refer to completely different concepts or problems. I used to dream of a black dog, who was always aggressive, chased me, and always terrified me. This black dog had no personality other than fear and aggression. Its presence, size and emotional response is the reason for its appearance in the dream.

Most dream analysts suggest that any animal, be it a pet, a domestic animal, or a wild animal, represents our emotions or our true nature. In the case of the black dog, the dream may have suggested that I was afraid of my own aggressive nature or my emotions. This has some merit in the fact that at the time of the dreams I was having difficulties in my marriage and most of the time I was angry at my husband.

Our dog, Coty, was a family pet. Yet all of us, including them, regard our cats, Smokey and Sheera, as my pets. Smokey was especially close to me. He slept with me, followed me everywhere, insisted on being picked up and taken away and protected. Smokey was a big, tough cat. It was very territorial in every way. He protected me, his home and his personal space. So when it appeared in a dream, it usually meant that a territorial or protection issue was being addressed.

I rarely dreamed (or dream) of unfamiliar cats, and when I did (or do) they are only briefly mentioned. I dream more often of unfamiliar dogs than unfamiliar cats. This may be because I have always had cats and, since Coty passed away, I have not adopted another dog.

When your pet appears in a dream, ask yourself what characteristic, personality trait or behavior of the pet you recognize in the dream. Is your dog a guard dog? Perhaps your animal spirit guide is trying to give you a warning. Is your dog a lazy and lovable homebody? Perhaps the subject of exercise or rest is the subject that concerns us. If you have a very fussy cat, and if the context and other symbols support it, you may need to address your diet or your finicky in other matters.

Any animal in our dreams has a lot to offer, but our pets offer us a way to see problems, situations or problems from a different perspective.
