First of all, in our opinion, any animal should never be used for human entertainment. Unfortunately, not everyone feels this way. Greyhounds are big business for the racing industry and because of people’s greed we have a bad business of animal abuse and exploitation.

Wherever there is money and profit, there will always be evil. Animals are voiceless and unable to speak for themselves and sadly because of this they are constantly abused and exploited.

If you think humans have rights, why shouldn’t animals have the same rights as us?

Greyhounds are not disposable products; however some people involved in the racing industry clearly regard them as such and in fact one individual within the racing industry has referred to them as ‘units’!

Dogs are supposed to be man’s and woman’s best friends, would you abuse and exploit your best friend like this? We urge anyone thinking of betting on a greyhound or having a ‘night in the dogs’ to think again about what he is endorsing. The racing industry has blood on its hands and anyone who supports it shares his guilt and shame on him.

Greyhound racing is known as a sport, we consider it a blood sport, in fact it is not a sport at all as there are no winners in it, only disposable losers.

A recent damning government report shows that there are huge numbers of greyhounds (thousands) each year that are not found and disappear, therefore presumed dead, plus thousands of pups are bred and killed each year when they are found. considered unsuitable for racing.

Some greyhounds rot in the trainers’ kennels, forgotten and neglected. We have rescued many greyhounds over the years and one case in particular was a greyhound a couple of years ago left in a dark shed, she now has a wonderful home, the owner after not being able to run with her anymore just left her in this dark and stinking hell hole.

David Smith of County Durham shot (with a captive bolt pistol) approximately 10,000 greyhounds over a fifteen year period and buried them on his land, a service he provided to trainers who no longer wanted their greyhounds. We fear that some greyhounds have been buried alive, as a bolter like the one used in slaughterhouses doesn’t always kill an animal outright and sometimes just stuns it.

A recent article in the Sunday Times now exposes healthy young greyhounds being killed in the UK for their sacred body parts only to be sold to the Royal Veterinary College. There have been many more scandals that have been exposed by the media and we are sure that there are many other undiscovered cases waiting to be exposed.

Another thing to note and a very valid point is the estimated 10,000 dogs that are NOT greyhounds that are killed each year. These dogs have been abandoned or are simply unwanted and often have nowhere to go as sanctuaries are already full; Now add the racing industry’s huge surplus of unwanted greyhounds to this dire situation. Once greyhounds are deemed past their expiration date, most of them will no longer be wanted (it is estimated that approximately 10,000 greyhounds are ‘retired’ each year). Some of these dogs will be lucky enough to be rehomed, however many thousands will die by euthanasia or by a bullet to the head, drowning, poisoning, etc. It could be argued that for every greyhound that is lucky enough to be rescued, another non-greyhound dog dies because the space that would have been available to the non-greyhound dog has now been taken up by the unwanted greyhound. So not only do thousands of greyhounds die each year as a result of this evil industry, but the lives of thousands of other dogs are affected as well.

So after reading all this, do you think greyhound racing should be abolished due to its inherent cruelty? The answer of course should be yes and in time this will happen as more people learn of the plight of greyhound racing and boycott greyhound racing as a consequence. You too can help by supporting the campaign to end this evil industry that kills and exploits man’s best friend.
