  • What makes this toy fun for my child? – These little friends buzz, make hamster noises and bounce off things like they’re made of rubber.
  • What should I look for? – White, gray and tan hamsters; with accompanying accessories like the Zhu Zhu Hamster Ball, the Zhu Zhu Hamster Wheel, and a multitude of other interlocking Zhu Zhu games.
  • Availability? – Very hard to find. These are the most popular tickets for Christmas 2009. Which means your best bet is to be an online retailer; just be prepared to pay a premium for anything Zhu Zhu.

2. Transformers 2 Toys

  • What is? – Giant robots fighting on earth, based on the hit movie “Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen.”
  • What makes this toy fun for my child? – Giant robots that transform into all kinds of different vehicles. What boy doesn’t love that!
  • What should I look for? – Optimus Prime, any of the “Combiner” transforming robot sets (such as Devastator), the interactive Transformers Movie 2 Ultimate Bumblebee, and the Bumblebee Plasma Cannon, to name just a few.
  • Availability? – Easy to find. Lots and lots of giant robots for everyone.

3. Throw away my talking truck

  • What is? – A super happy Tonka dump truck (in the style of the CARS movie).
  • What makes this toy fun for my child? Chucks speaks 40 sounds and phrases and comes equipped with sensors that “carry” him to your boy when he calls.
  • What should I look for? – A bright red and yellow dump truck with a big smile on his face.
  • Availability? – Easy to find. Many Chuck the Talking Trucks are available.

4. New Moon Twilight Action Figures

  • What is? – Another trendy movie franchise, based on the successful novels, starring vampires and werewolves.
  • What makes this toy fun for my child? – Although it is aimed more at pre-teen and older girls, werewolf vs. Vampire battles and a strong storyline also keep kids entertained.
  • What should I look for? – Collectible action figures manufactured by NECA. Highly detailed reproductions of virtually every main character from Twilight New Moon.
  • Availability? – Easy to find. Online and in specialty stores, that is. Neca is not (yet) available in all major retail chains.

5.Apple iPod Touch

  • What is? – Probably the best Internet-enabled portable audio/video player/media device on the market.
  • What makes this toy fun for my child? – 64GB of music and video storage, iPod apps, web browsing and more in the palm of your (child’s) hand.
  • What should I look for? – Apple’s signature less is more aesthetic, in the form of a touch screen.
  • Availability? – Easy to find. Almost every electronics retailer should be able to provide you with an iPod Touch.

6. Bakugan 7 in 1 Maxus Dragonoid

  • What is? – Pokémon (remember them?) and Transformers robots in one package.
  • What makes this toy fun for my child? – Six mini robots as “traps” combine to make one large robot “warrior” – perfect for battling other robot warriors with or without the accompanying trading card games.
  • What should I look for? – A large dragon-headed “warrior” robot in Bakugan packaging
  • Availability? – Easy to find. Bakugan merchandise is usually produced in healthy quantities, especially around Christmas.

7. Elmo tickles the hands

  • What is? – Red Elmo furry hands for younger children.
  • What makes this toy fun for my child? – A vibrating glove allows your toddler to play AS Tickle Me Elmo.
  • What should I look for? – A pair of red, furry hands with Elmo’s face on them.
  • Availability? – Easy to find. It’s not as hard to get years as the original TMX that started the craze.

8.Nintendo DSi

  • What is? – The latest generation of the king of Nintendo’s video game systems.
  • What makes this toy fun for my child? – Now with integrated cameras and sound recorders, the DSi brings a new dimension to portable gaming.
  • What should I look for? – Look and feel similar to the standard DS and DS lite, with a small “i” on the box.
  • Availability? – Easy to find. The supply of almost all major video game systems, including the Nintendo DSi, is healthy this Christmas.

9. Ultimate LEGO Building Set

  • What is? – A good size Lego cube with 405 Lego bricks.
  • What makes this toy fun for my child? – What child does not like to play with Legos? With the LEGO Ultimate Building Set, you and your child can build hoses, helicopters, cars, UFOs – just about anything your imagination can think of.
  • What should I look for? – A cool blue box shaped like a Lego block taped together.
  • Availability? – Easy to find. Since the starter kit is not affiliated with any licensed property, finding one should be simple.

10. Nerf N-Strike Raider Rapid Fire CS-35 Dart Blaster

  • What is? – A Tommy gun, Nerf style.
  • What makes this toy fun for my child? – The largest ammo capacity ever found in a Nerf gun, along with a pump-action firing system, ensures hours of semi-automatic or fully-automatic Nerf dart-firing fun!
  • What should I look for? – Nerf’s signature blue and orange blaster, with either a large, chock-full barrel or an orange dart.
  • Availability? – (Mostly) easy to find. This is the most popular Nerf gun right now, so availability can be an issue with some less well-stocked retailers.
