Continuing the tradition of providing great sound that began more than 60 years ago, next-generation Klipsch surround sound is available with some impressive stats that will keep even the most demanding HDTV user happy.

Of course, when Klipsch debuted their first updated speaker system in 1946, they were a far cry from the Klipsch QUINTEST 5.0 speaker system that first appeared in the late 1990s. At the time, the two most important features were the Rare earth magnets for deafening range and the first use of plastic speakers, polyurethane to be exact.

Today, Klipsch is in the fourth generation of its surround sound home theater system and provides the user with excellent home theater sound through speakers that may amaze you. For example, the average polyurethane speaker Klipsch uses is now three inches wide by about four inches deep. You would never have thought that you could get the kind of range of a speaker system with relatively small speakers like these, but it is possible.

The bases, by the way, serve as table or wall mounts with the appropriate hardware.

The way in which Klipsch can achieve this is astonishing. With the center channel, there are a total of five other speakers. The left side speaker set will serve as the complete left side sound source, while the right side speaker set serves as the right side sound sources. The center channel links the center speakers to allow you full surround sound.

If you look at the back of each set of speakers, you should notice something interesting. Instead of just using 18-gauge wire connectors (two and two, probably little more than spring-loaded prongs), you’ll find a rear end that can handle heavy gauge wires and spade connectors or banana plugs. This means that you will have access to the full power of each channel of the Class D digital amplifier (75 watts) provided by the optional SW-350, an optional 8-inch polypropylene speaker with very little interference. In fact, with the SW-350 installed, it has a range that any home entertainment system can offer, from 120 Hz to 23,000 Hz.

It is truly amazing how Klipsch has been able to extract so much sound in such a small space, especially when the space also contains the parts of your home entertainment system that can include a satellite receiver, a high-end flat panel monitor, that works at native 1080p. mode, blu-ray player, DVD player and more.

Klipsch calls their evolution revolutionary and changes the XT horn and after hearing the system we have to believe them on both counts. The left and right speakers deliver bright highs and midrange – not bad for a 3-inch plastic speaker – while the SX-350 provides a bass sound range that enriches any audio source.

Collectively, Klipsch has done it again and they’ve done it in the same shape and packaging that, if anything, seems to have gotten smaller in the 15 years since they debuted.
