Superstitions have been a part of most people’s lives since ancient times. In modern times, the belief that a specific action determines the positive or negative outcome of a future event is more popular than ever.

When looking for a job, when taking an exam, on your wedding day, when moving home and why not when playing an important football game and placing a bet.

Before we talk about soccer betting superstitions, you should already know that even soccer players have weird superstitions on match days. Here are some 2012 soccer team captains who follow strange rituals and hope for good luck protection:

Steven Gerrard (b. 1980) and Liverpool players like to touch the ‘This is Anfield’ sign in the tunnel on their way to the pitch. Steven Gerrard is the captain of the English team Liverpool and the England national team.

Iker Casillas Fernández (born 1981), better known as Iker Casillas, captain of the Spanish soccer team and goalkeeper for Real Madrid observes a ritual in which he touches his own crossbar every time his team scores a goal.

Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro (born 1985) or simply Cristiano Ronaldo, the captain of the Portuguese national team and striker for Spanish League club Real Madrid, maintains a pre-match ritual of cutting his hair for fear of ruining his scoring streak .

Like all people, football betting fans also have their own rituals and look for signs of good luck before placing a bet.

When people get some money from a bet, they say it was because their palm started to itch or because they wear their favorite color shirt at the betting event.

Some people believe that they should step forward with their right foot or fill out the betting slip with their left hand. As for good luck charms, some people use silver for sports betting.

Television is an important element of supernatural superstition. There are some people who believe that they will not win a bet if they do not watch the game, some turn off the television momentarily and then turn it on, switch to other channels, stop watching the game for a moment, all this for the hope that good things will happen for the team they bet on.

There are a lot more superstitions I could talk about, but I don’t want to ruin my bet on tonight’s game by telling you about my lucky red pajamas.
