Engineers have always been an interesting group of crafters, who have the ability to craft a wide range of items (although they are often given the best items in their inventory, i.e. those that only they can use). Aside from gun sights, they haven’t really been able to do much more with their abilities than create speck extractors and goggles.

However, with the arrival of Wrath of the Lich King, they have been given hope, with the introduction of a few select new recipes that will (though probably not massively) change this, offering numerous fun new options and bonuses for level up. Engineering up to 450.

Engineers will now be able to create and implement enchantments on their own items to create advanced items that are only available to them, like parachute capes for example. However, engineers will not be able to stack normal enchantments with engineering enchantments.

Here are some examples of what engineers will have access to:

  • nitro boosters – Will allow engineers to add nitro boosts to their shoes for a major speed boost lasting 5 seconds.
  • Hand assembled pyrotechnic rocket – Will attach a pyrotechnic rocket launcher to your gloves that will deal proc 2000-2500 damage to any enemies in range. Big fun!

More than likely one of the most popular new schematic sets will be the addition of mechanical mounts, in the form of a pig and a helicopter (motorcycle-like machines that will only be available to engineers). Additionally, new craftable pets have been introduced, adding more depth to the value of these items (which have always earned the most gold for engineers).

In addition to this, the new schematics will also include things like the Gnomish Army Knife: an All-Purpose Wrench, Pickaxe, Hammer, Flint and Tinder, Micro-Adjuster, and Skinning Knife, for all professions. As if that wasn’t enough, the GAK can also be used to resurrect players (with a 30 minute cooldown).

As noted at the beginning of this article, the Engineering changes aren’t anything big, but they’re a lot more fun than before!
