I had a hard time organizing my bathrooms: kids, his and hers, plus where to iron?

What can you do to get more storage space for the bathroom? If you have a linen closet in your bathroom, or a linen cabinet, several of your bathroom storage needs are already being met (at least it helps a lot).

But what if you need other bathroom storage? I have used most of the ideas listed here and they have really helped me declutter my bathrooms.

TOILET SHELF

A grooming rack holds all your grooming supplies in one place: your hair dryer, curling iron, and hairspray. It’s a great bathroom organizer for a lady on the go!

I used to keep these items in a drawer or just leave them out, but using a toiletry rack has really decluttered my bathroom. It also gives me peace of mind because my toddler can’t reach the top cabinet I mounted it on (it’s on the inside of the door) and gets burned. You can also mount these types of racks behind a linen closet or door.

The toiletry shelves can fit as small as a 12″ wide opening. Great!

TOILET PAPER HOLDER

You can buy decorative toilet paper holders, but if you need to save space, buy one that mounts to the back of a dresser or linen door.

If you prefer decorative ones, they come in various tower and decorative styles (like baskets), which often don’t take up too much space.

I like the door mounted ones because after installing a toddler lock on the door, there is no more toilet paper thrown in the bathrooms!

COSMETIC DRAWER ORGANIZERS

These are really useful bathroom organizers. They are simple drawer inserts that organize your cosmetics, hairbrushes, and personal items in neat rows and compartments.

They keep your cosmetics mess-free, not to mention they keep your makeup out of sight.

You can also use decorative baskets on top of your vanity to place your makeup. If you don’t like the idea of baskets on your dresser, place them in a linen closet to store them out of sight.

REMOVABLE OR TILTING BASKETS

These are the largest, and are either a wire basket or a plastic laundry basket with a lid (I prefer the plastic ones).

You can mount them to the floor of your cabinet (dresser or bedding), then simply remove them after opening the door.

If you put hampers inside a linen cabinet, you can still use the shelves or extensions above the hamper to fill the rest of the available space. One hamper won’t take up the entire linen cabinet.

There are also door mounted basket units. Its rollers also mount to the cabinet floor, but when you pull the door out, the basket comes with it when you open it.

These bathroom organizers are typically 14-15″ wide, over 19″ high, and approximately 19″ deep.

REMOVABLE TRASH DISPLACEMENTS

Pull-out waste rolls aren’t just for the kitchen. They can be useful bathroom organizers. When you’re in the bathroom, who wants to look at the garbage anyway? And, if you have small children, it seems that they are always digging through the garbage if it is not put away.

There are dozens of removable bin displays to choose from.

Be sure to check the plumbing under your bathroom vanity to make sure you have room for a garbage roll before you buy anything.

FOLDABLE IRONING BOARDS

These are by far the most expensive bathroom organizers I have listed in this article but, if you have the room and the money, these are really nice to have. Depending on the brand and its features, they can cost anywhere from $100 to more than $400, plus installation.

There is no better area to install a folding ironing board than in the bathroom. It’s convenient and out of the way. I love mine.

You can mount it on your wall directly. If you’re really handy, or know someone who is, you can mount it “on” your wall (that’s how mine is at home). You’ll need to remove some drywall, etc., but pull-out ironing boards can be made virtually flush with the wall.

There are various types of pull-out ironing board holders. The ones that cost $100 or less will be really simple and only include the ironing board. Others will also house your iron, and some get really fancy and have connected electricity with a plug and switch to plug in your iron.

The outside face of the fold-out ironing boards will be made of a nice wood, such as oak, or a wood that can be painted, such as birch.

The nicer wood fronts are usually already stained (and more expensive), but some can be found unfinished and stained to match your existing woodwork.

Paintable ironing boards are good if you want the exterior to blend in with the wall (in other words, you can paint them the same color as the wall). If you want to mix it up a bit, paint the ironing board surface a contrasting color for excitement and appeal.

Another idea is to mount a long mirror on the outside of your flat surfaced (paintable) ironing boards. This is what I did with mine. The ironing board is in a small bathroom and the mirror really gives the illusion of more space, so it’s not only useful but also decorative.

Enjoy your bathroom with these ideas to order and organize.
