Need to make that outfit a little more special? Do you want to spice it up a little more? Well then personalize your shoes with ribbon. All kinds of shoes can be embellished with ribbon. Whatever the occasion, a bit of tape goes a long way on all kinds of shoes. We’ve seen some extremely stylish shoes that really started out as plain jane flip flops. Or maybe she knows exactly what she wants her bridesmaids shoes to look like, but she can’t seem to find them in the catalogs. We have been surprised by some of the ideas that our customers have had when it comes to using tape for their shoes.

Here are some examples:

bridesmaid shoes

Matching shoes to bridesmaid dresses is easy when you accessorize them with a ribbon. Wide or narrow straps look just as beautiful on a basic pair of sandals; for spaghetti straps at the back, cut wide ribbons into strips or use narrow ribbons. To attach the strip of tape, dot the shoe strap with fabric glue and press the tape onto the strap. Trim the ends at the proper angle and tuck them into the crease of the shoe. (If desired, glue a ribbon tied in a bow.) To make a hole for the buckle, use the existing holes as a guide to pierce the tape (a bold needle works well).

fangs

Use a small hole punch to make holes around the edges of your Crocs. Then thread ribbon through these holes for a custom embroidery style. Use a ribbon in a color that matches your Crocs to add a simple, sophisticated edge to your shoes. Use fabric glue to attach ribbons, beads, or sequins to your Crocs. Tape around the bottom edge or wrap around the ankle strap. Glue beads around the ankle part or sequins on the toes.

canvas shoes

Personalize a pair of plain white canvas shoes (like the $5 Wal-Mart variety) and make them unique and fun. The lightweight canvas makes them the perfect shoe for summer. Using fabric paint, paint a striped pattern or any design of your choice on the shoe. Then string matching ribbon to create pretty shoelaces.

Flip flops

Make your simple flip flops fabulous. Gather a variety of ribbons and cut them into five-inch strands. Take each individual 5-inch strand and tie them into the flip flops with knots. Make sure to start at one end of the flip flop and work your way to the other side. Alternate the colors of the ribbon as you tie them.
